Foster the People Live in KL

2 weekends ago, we had Mark, Cubbie & Mark in town for a sold-out concert at the KL Convention Centre. If you missed out, I did Tweet Live via Twitter – hope you got the chance to catch it!

Anyways, the venue was sooo packed! Rica (from Hitz KK) & I were the hosts for the event & luckily enough we managed to get a photo with Mark & Cubbie before the show (the other Mark was talking to someone).

But here’s a photo of Mark doing his thing on the guitar:

Now, by the time Rica & I went out & got back in before the concert – we couldn’t make our way to the front anymore so we watched from behind…

They were amazing live & I can’t wait to hear more in future from them!

Hitz FaceBook 6

Ok so, besides staying healthy, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to blog a little more. The last time I did, was more than 6 months ago!?

So here we go, to more blogging in the Year 2012!!!

Let’s start with a feature on the Drive Thru called the Hitz FB6. Here’s how it works:

1. Log on to fb.hitz.fm – you’ll find a poll posted at around 3pm everyday, with 10 songs in it to vote for.

2. Vote for a song on the list, or submit your own (I’m sure you can figure out how to do that!)

3. Then wait for 6pm for Top6 hits to be played!

Best thing about the HitzFB6? I’ll play any song, as long as it’s Top6. So, if there’s a new song from your favourite band (that Hitz isn’t playing yet) and you’d like for me to play – that’s where you need to go (and tell all your friends to vote too!). So far with your help we’ve managed to premiere hits from these 2 artists:

10 imaginary points if you can figure out who they are! Check it… Weekdays, 3pm on FB & 6pm on air!

Why I don’t VLog…

Couple of weeks ago, we had the Nokia Angry Birds Playground, where we tried to break the Guiness World Record for the most number of people playing a mobile phone relay game.

What I tried to do on the day itself was record clips of the event & make a nice video out of it. But I realised something… I suck at doing it! Couldn’t even manage an intro properly (as you can see if you click ‘play’ on the Youtube video) WHAAAT?!

Anyways, we actually did set a Guiness World Record & the highlight of my day was meeting one of the creators of the game from Rovio Finland, Ville. Nice guy, but I swear I didn’t really understand a word he said & I couldn’t pronounce his name right LOL!

Before Bedtime…

Ok, let me let you in on a little quirk I have before I fall asleep… I like checking the Apple store & downloading free apps for my iPhone (OK, so I don’t do this everyday – but it does happen often enough). For some reason, it makes me sleepy! Weird huh?

Anyways, here’s what I’ve managed to gather, mostly free ones (because I’m cheap like that).

1. IMDB, Wikipedia & Dictionary are so handy to have & use (for obvious reasons)

2. MyPhone+ is a good buy if you like having pictures for the people who call you. It syncs to FaceBook & takes your friend’s profile picture as their Photo Caller ID – Costs USD3, but it’s kinda worth it!

3. RMaker is another cool & easy to use app for making your own ringtones. Whatever music you have in your iTunes can be made into a ringtone & it gives you full details on how to do it too!

4. While we’re on the subject of music… Download the Hitz.fm app! Free & you can listen to us from wherever you may be. Plus there’s an option to rewind as well!

5. TwitCasting is pretty cool as well, it syncs to Twitter & allows you to stream live video! That’s how I did it for the Bruno Mars & Leona Lewis concert. I’m sure many of you who weren’t there enjoyed it right?

6. As for games, besides your usual Angry Birds & Cut The Rope – check out Drop 7 & Scramble CE. Seriously, I have spent many minutes trying to beat my high score – Good for when your bored out of your mind!

7. Paper Plane Project is another app I found real cool. It gives you step-by-step guides on how to make paper planes. Not your usual doinky ones that don’t fly very far, but the high-tech crazy ones that go for miles!

8. If you workout (like I try to LOL) then Workouts is a handy app to have. Gives you circuit exercises that focus on anything from your legs to your ears – I was kidding about the ear part, but try it out!

9. Onavo is an app designed to get you the most out of your data plan. It apparently manages & compresses your data usage so you get more for what you pay for. I’ve yet to receive my bills since using it, but we’ll see!

10. Now my most favourite apps to download & use are photography ones – Leme Leme is my latest obsession. The app is free, but some extra lenses cost 0.99cents. If you ask me, well worth it! Especially when you get to take photos like these:

Taken with one of the gazillion filters available.

A photo of my best-friend’s cat Charlie, taken with a ‘fish-eye’ lens.

This one was shot with the ‘Action 4′ camera – I love how each photo has a different effect!

Here’s another version of the ‘Action 4′ called the ‘Super 4′

And this, has got to be the hardest to perfect the ‘Double Exposure’! You’ve just got to take that photo & hope for the best!

And that’s my list! What apps do you have on your iPhone / iPad / iTouch? Share yours in the comment box!

Justin Bieber’s My World Tour

A few days ago, the most famous 17yr old was in town & I think almost all of Malaysia had ‘Bieber Fever’ in anticipation of the year’s biggest concert!

Tweets were trending on Twitter, (remember #BieberGetNasiLemak? LOL!) everyone wanted a ticket to see the show & of course, the screaming! I literally picked up phone calls at hitz.fm with girls crying, boys shouting & I even had a mother give me a long lecture on why I should have given her daughter a ticket.

Anyways… He came & he literally brought Stadium Merdeka down. You could hear the fans from the Monorail station itself! I still remember looking around when Justin performed ‘U Smile’ & every single girl was either crying or close to it… Justin really has some devoted ‘Beliebers’!

If you missed out on the concert, Jin has a very nice video (of which Justin re-tweeted!) on his blog: www.mynameisjin.com & I have taken the audio grabs from his Press Conference to share with you. Check out the video:

Bruno Mars Live in KL

So Bruno was in town over the weekend. Got the chance to see him perform live & also meet him!

If you follow me on Twitter, you’d know that I tweeted he was tiny… He really is. But that’s not important, he’s super talented & an awesome performer as well, plus his band is sick! That’s sick, as in… Good! Not unwell or anything like that…

Now, I know many of you couldn’t get invites to see him, so I TwitCasted the concert (that’s real-time streaming) on Twiitter & I also got photos & videos for you too. Hope that makes up for it? Check out more photos here *click* and… Press play on the video!

Makin the Tee!

Who are JJ & Ean talking to happens all this week, the next & the week after that. It is in my opinion the easiest game on the planet. Identify a mystery voice to win a share of 60,000RM!!! More details on how to play at: www.hitz.fm

The money is super cool, but since I can’t take part… The t-shirt is cooler! Well, that’s also because I designed it, my very 1st one made for print! So I thought I’d share with you the process of how a t-shirt is made from the initial idea to the final product (the photos you are going to see are from when I made t-shirts before)

1. You’d obviously need to have a rough idea of what your going to have on the t-shirt, you can use something like Adobe Illustrator to work on your designs.

2. After that, get it approved & that’s when the exciting part begins! (Well, at least I think it’s exciting)

3. You’d need to print out your design (actual size) for the printers to put onto a silk screen (which is some netting, placed over a wooden frame). Check out the state of this printer’s office! Nightmare!

4. After, you’d need to expose the design onto the silk-screen (seriously I don’t know how that works, so I won’t bother explaining – I might just confuse you & myself in the process)

5. Dry & then coat the silk screen with an emulsion (again, I don’t know how it works… So I won’t explain!)

6. Wash the silk screen frame (check out the state of the toilet!), dry it completely & your ready to start printing onto your t-shirt.

7. The hardest part of the entire process, is making sure your t-shirt is straight so the print goes on straight as well. That probably takes longer than waiting for your elbows to grow wings… Seriously!

8. Once that is done, you place the silk screen over the t-shirt & with your ‘squeegee’ drag the paint over the t-shirt! (Yes, I know, that design is terrible! But, hey… At least I tried right?)

9. Dry & it is done. Definitely the most fun you can have in a day! Here’s how the ‘Who Are JJ & Ean Talking To’ t-shirts look like:

Pick them up from our Cruisers if you’d like one! Here’s a tip… Most of the answers for the mystery voice are at the back!

Hopefully, you’ll be able to try making your own t-shirts too! Good luck & listen in to win your share of 60,000 till the end of March on hitz.fm k? Hope to hear from you!

Justin Bieber’s TVC

A few days ago we got our wigs on & had loads of fun doing something we never thought we’d do…

It was a really, really enjoyable – considering half of the shoots I’ve done have always ended up with me getting a migraine (over the heat, the wait, the make-up, the this & that & everything else). Be sure to check out the finished TVC, I know I can’t wait to!

Photos can be found here *click* and don’t forget to check out Jin’s video too *click*

In my spare time…

So for most of my blog posts, I’ve been putting up things to do with work. For this one, I thought I’d share with you another something I like doing when I have some extra hours in a day/week or month.

Now, if I weren’t speaking every day on the radio, I’d probably not be doing anything along the lines of what I do now. In fact, if I had gone back to finish my degree 6 years ago, I’d most probably be an architect, or at least an interior designer, or a designer of some sort.

I think I inherited my love for colour & composition from my mother. When I was young, she used to help me with school art & craft projects (in fact, I think she enjoyed that more than teaching me Maths or English, because she always seemed to shout at me when I couldn’t give her the right answer to a so called ‘easy question’) and I always seemed to enjoy my time with her doing that, than anything else.

It wasn’t until I took Art & Design Technology in Secondary school (only because I didn’t have to write anything – yes, I was that lazy) and was given an A* for drawing an aboriginal gecko that it dawned upon myself that I actually might be OK, creatively.

Don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t draw you, paint scenery or cut off my ear like Van Gogh, but I think I do pretty well with shapes & colours. Well, that’s just my opinion… I value yours as well, so here’s a painting (on canvas) of Jimi Hendrix I did for a good friend about 2 years ago, it’s not the best but I think I did OK? :)

Secondhand Serenade on the Drive Thru

John Vesely & the rest of his band members came to visit the studio last week before their performance at the Bentley Auditorium in KL. To be honest, I really didn’t expect them at all, until Moots announced that they were in the office. Now, I hardly get any visitors on the Drive Thru so I was more than happy to entertain…

They were all very nice, John of course being the most outspoken member of the band. While the guy on the far left, was the shy-est of the lot. You’ll see in the video… What do they think of ‘Roti Canai’ & the rest of our Malaysian food? Do they like Malaysia? Is there a message for the fans? Well, check out the video:
